My Sister's Chandelier

I found this chandelier last week at Goodwill for $30.00.  I thought it was on the pricier side considering the condition of it, but I couldn't pass it up.  I knew my sister would love it (even though I tried to convince my husband that we should find a spot for it).
Some of the crystals and white sleeves (not sure what that's called) were missing.  I soaked the crystal in a glass cleaner and water.
I cleaned it up and taped up the openings.
I gave it a coat of turquoise spray paint.
Then I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint in Old White to give it an aged effect.  I filled a cup with about an inch to two inches of water and poured in a tiny amount of paint.  It basically looked like I was soaking a brush in paint water.  I then just rubbed the brush on the chandelier.  It kind of bubbled in places and didn't really seem to be sticking, but I just kept going over it and spreading it out. The effect is beautiful.
If you look closely here, you can see some of the subtle white peaking through.  It took away the harshness of the spray paint and gave it a beautiful aged look.
I had a blast photographing it in my backyard.  Please excuse my insane amount of pictures below.  As for the missing crystals, I just chose not to hang any on the top section and used them all for the lower parts of the chandelier. I also went to a lighting store and they actually gave me the plastic sleeves.
Isn't she pretty?  I tried again, to convince my husband that we needed it, but he seems to think our lighting is just fine.

I'll be linking up at all these great parties

Hi I'm new here but so glad I found you!! I have a thing for all things turquoise/aqua so I am in love with this chandelier! So pretty!

Mindy 6/18/2011

Ooooh, I love this! When my sister bought her house, there was an ugly chandelier in the dining room that was very similar to this one. She replaced it and I asked if I could have it. I painted it white and hung it in my daughter's room. I LOVE it!!! You can see it here:
http://rindymae.blogspot.com/2011/04/girls-room.html

Karen 6/24/2011

Wow you did a great job, it is beautiful.

Beth @beth-adam.blogspot.com 7/29/2011

WOW! :) So beautiful!!! :) You did a fabulous job!!
Beth :)

Mindy 7/29/2011

My sister took a chandelier out of her house when she bought it that's almost identical to that.

I painted it an antique white and hung it in the nursery when I was pregnant with my son. Six years later, it now resides in my daughters room with linen shades that I 'girlied up" with pink trim. I LOVE it.

The color you picked is so fun! I think you should fight for it. :o)

Stoppin' in from Vintage Revivals.

I have a similar chandelier that was in my 1940 house when I moved in. I removed it from the 2nd bedroom to install an updated light. I would like to paint it and put it in my master closet. It's on my project list, but seeing yours inspires me to get it done.

Santiago Mills 11/16/2012

You did a great job in retouching your sister’s chandelier! If that was me, I don’t think my wife would want to part with it. And I would have found a way to make it fit to appease her. It’s well made. Chandeliers make the room it is in classy and elegant. I am sure your sister loved it when you finally gave it to her. I wonder what was her reaction.
